Thanks to a rare opening in the nails department at my new spa job, I treated myself to another Gel Mani-Pedi today. Before working at my new job, I rarely got mani-pedis. (Because I did mah nails mahself.) Now I’ve gotten two in a month. You don’t need to say it–I’m getting spoiled. That groundhog may have predicted six more weeks of tit-freezing winter, but that won’t stop me from flaunting these Valentine’s Day-ready nails out to the world. I may risk frostbite (it actually has been annoyingly cold here lately), but at least my nails will stay hooked up.
Some crappy stuff may have happened recently, but so did some cool stuff.
Getting a new mani/pedi! It’s been ages since mah nails got fully pampered, and when I had someone else cut my toenails. The new spa I work at also offers nail services, and us workers get a sweet employee deal for manicures and pedicures. I had some free time after my shift, a nail tech had an opening in her schedule, and the chipped paint on my nails needed to go. I opted for gel polish so my shizz would stay on longer, and while the process took a little longer than expected, the finish was worth the time!
I forgot the name of the polish used, though. It was from OPI and I’m guessing it could be this pretty thing.
Free luxe makeup!! Two weeks ago, I finally received my order for Pat McGrath Labs (that I ordered back in early December), and, since I have all the luck in the world, my Celestial Divinity palette had a broken powder in it (it was that lovely green one at the bottom corner), and the rest of the powders got affected. I emailed PMG’s customer service, and they ended up offering me a free Celestial Divinity palette. A freebie! That baby is worth $78 (and is currently sold out), and the messed-up palette is actually still usable. Now I have two of them! *sniffles in joy*
I’m a few days late in this, but I must give a shout-out to MJ Rodriguez for being the first transgendered actress to win a Golden Globe. Viva Blanca Evangelista! Now can Pose be brought back for just a couple more seasons, please?
How dare I go over two months without hooking up my nails with new paint? The colors I used may not be autumn-esque, but we’re technically not in autumn just yet so I’m safe with these mauve shades. What I used this go-round: Zoya’s Rumour and China Glaze’s “You’re Too Sweet” (the glitter on the middle and ring fingers). The CG one is like pink diamonds on my nails when light is shone on it. Lovely!
I’m not gonna wait till tomorrow to do a Happy Monday post on this, as I’m still giddy from this beauty haul I got yesterday! Yours Busy has been working a lot lately, which means, besides worn limbs from massaging bodies all day, extra spending dough! And when I found out that The Cosmetics Company Store is running a “6 For $60” makeup sale in their outlet stores, the makeup slut in me squealed. Even though she also needs to be gagged by a bunch of beautyblender sponges, as I have a lot of makeup already. I feel like I can start my own micromini Sephora with the collection I have. Nonetheless, I ran to that sale, honey.
The shit I got: Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, a Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palette, Tom Ford Traceless Perfecting Foundation (yes, I bought two foundations so judge away), a Smashbox face palette, MAC’s Pro Lip Palette, and my newest fave–Clinique’s Lash Power mascara. Oh, and a MAC limited edition eye kit that wasn’t part of the sale but was another bargain in itself; it was 75% off from its original price. I later added up the original retail prices of all my buys, and it totaled to over $300. Dayum. That TF foundation alone usually goes for $88! I spent around $76 for all seven products. After I left the store, I felt like I committed thievery because talk about a steal.
I may be leaving home for a few days, but I still like to keep my nails looking purdy like today’s birthday delicate blossom Carmen Electra. OK, maybe almost as purdy as her. (Side note: UNF at 90s-era Carmen.) For this manicure, I stuck with good ol’ Zoya, using Maryann (the hot pink) and Faye (the metallic purple-gold duochrome). Base coat is my tried-and-true Pacifica Clear Base Coat (the old version that’s being discontinued *sobs*) and the top coat is some L’Oreal gel formula I got for $3 at TJ Maxx that actually prolongs my polish. I’m ready to dazzle Santa Cruz with my nails! (Or probably not because my hands will be in my pockets the whole time since the weather is going to be cold there.)
In less than an hour, I’ll be getting my second Covid vaccine. I hear that the second shot may knock me the fuck out, but even if I end up feeling like death for a day, at least I’ll have pretty, pretty nails. The polishes I used this time around are Essie’s “Beat Of The Moment” and Zoya’s “Stassi” (I wanted some green because St. Patty’s Day is coming up). BotM actually looks more rose gold than pink on me, and its finished texture isn’t the smoothest, but it’s no biggie because I adore the sparkle from it!
Gotta keep my nails hooked up and glammed out for the New Year’s! Even if I can’t go anywhere outside of work to flaunt the new paint job.
Excuse my flaky-looking skin, by the way. I have hand eczema and right now it’s awful as being reminded Kirk Cameron still exists.
The polishes of choice are from Zoya: Alicia on the thumbs, ring, and pinkies, and Bar on the index and middle. Bar is actually more sheer than opaque; I feel like it could be layered atop of another more opaque polish for special shimmery fancy-glammy effect. But it’s quite an eye-catcher on its own, especially when shown in light. Coupled with Alicia’s silver holographic finish, it’s like I got diamonds on mah nails! Now I can ring in 2021 in style! And by “in style” I mean sitting at home on NYE watching The Office reruns while old Wild 94.9 mixes play on low volume on the laptop.
I recently bought a tube of Maybelline’s Super Stay Matte Ink because I heard it was near transfer-proof for mask-wearing. I tried it and, to my surprise, they weren’t lying! But after reading this Ulta review, I found out the lippie also happens to be blowjob-proof!
That the review is also the “Most Helpful” out of the product’s near-5000 reviews shows that “Ilikequeso” speaks the truth! Once this Covid thing blows over (I refuse to get my freak on with others during this time ’cause you never know who may be lying), I hope to put that experiment to the test! (So, likely in 2022 then. *sad face*)
One thing that’s more enjoyable than following my favorite baseball team (who are currently losing to a bunch of cheaters): manicures!
Confession: I don’t really go to salons to get my nails done. This may be hard to believe, but I got my very first mani-pedi just two years ago. While I enjoy the feet soak and hand paraffin I get from getting mani-pedis at salons, I can also do without them (and, yes, that sounds hard to believe, too). Plus, I prefer to throw my money at other things, like nail polish. And the amount of nail polishes that I have is something I should be embarrassed about, but I’m not. *files nails*
And I think I may have found THE nail polish of the summer!
This go-round, I painted my paws and piggies in Zoya’s “Faye”. While it’s listed as a “purple” color, it’s quite dichroic. In sunlight, the gold shimmer comes thru and my nails look more “nude gold” than purple. Even when looking at the bottle, you can’t tell there’s purple mixed in.
But in low light, the “purple” (more like a mauve) shows up.
A note that you may not care about: the pics above are photoshop-free. (I’m saving all of my PS for when I take my author portrait for my upcoming book.) So if you’re wondering why my finish looks different than what Google Search shows, there’s your reason why.
Still, the finish is nothing like I’ve seen from a polish. It’s much stun!
(Edited because I had to shrink my huge-ass pics!)
