Happy Britney Day!

In honor of Brit-Brit’s 40th born day today, I shall wear my finest low-rise bottoms and gorge on cheetos and frappuccinos while lip-syncing to four of my favorite songs of hers!

It’s autotuned to hell and back, but it’s not gonna stop me from wanting this played at my wake.

When I first saw the song title, I, like many many others, was wondering who was “Amy.” I think it took a few listens of this anthem for bisexuals (yes it is!) to find out what she was really talking about. It’s more clever than using acronyms or numbers.

Who says she can’t do mellow out songs? Also, that music video! Brit’s never looked more naturally gorgeous than she does in that vid.

“Stronger” could very well be her strongest song lyrics-wise. Of course, the song has gained new meaning since being freed from her conservatorship last month, but who hasn’t turned to this song when in need of some empowerment?

Just Bask In All The Glam

Happy 20th anniversary to this fantabulous masterpiece that was released in the spring of 2001. Sheeit, I remember the uproar from some of the pearl-clutchers back then who thought the video was too raunchy. Oh, if those prudes saw the gimcrackery you see and hear from, um, music these days. Meanwhile, teen me spent many afternoons on her own trying to nail down Xtina’s part, but all I did was startle my cat (RIP Snowball) and attack nearby eardrums when I attempted to do so. I was better off doing Missy’s part instead–all three seconds of it.

Also, look–no mumbling, no twerking, no mopey faces or overinflated asses! Just a fun and well-crafted pop song (yes, I’m aware it’s a remake) with confident women hitting all the right notes, and a memorable video to go with it. Now that’s how pop music should be done.

Listening To…(7/24)

No, not Taylor Swift’s latest album. (But go buy it anyway to piss off Gayfish.) Any of yous remember Princess Superstar? I first heard of her when I listened to the “Thinking XXX” soundtrack, about 12 years ago. She had a song on it that was so deliciously tawdry…

(By the way, this song is not the one I listened to on that soundtrack. I tried finding the actual version, which is remixed by Felix Da Housecat, but it’s not on YT! Boooooo!)

Anyone who happily sings about her coochie is my kind of pop tart! I’ve gotten into more of her songs since discovering her (very late, I should add). I stopped listening to them when I got on a 90s dance bender eight years ago that…is actually still happening. But I’ve been bumping jams from the 2000s lately, and her songs are on one of my 2000s-era playlists. Something about her music sends me back to that decade of Brangelina and celeb chicks papped without panties, before social media, wretched “influencers”, and ugly-ass frayed skinny pants.

She doesn’t sing about men who did her wrong and broken hearts, and she doesn’t need to. Her knack for being both kitschy and naughty is enduring.

PS has been in the music scene since the late 90s, but I haven’t heard a thing from her since 2008 when she released this club banger. To be fair, I don’t follow her, and maybe she’s been putting out stuff that I have no clue of.

I’ll always have this anthem of demureness and grace, however.

Why this song didn’t go triple-platinum and snatched all the Grammys when it was released remains one of the music industry’s biggest crimes!

Song Of The Day 12/12

I think I may need to start calling it “Song Of The Moment” since I’m not doing this everyday as I’d like to. Oh well.

This was one of my earworms yesterday. Short rant: some people have likened Britney as her generation’s Madonna (which–controversial opinion alert–I never really bought), but I always saw her more like her generation’s Kylie. Madge at her peak was brazen in her actions and was not afraid to offend anyone, and I never saw that same attitude in Brit-Brit. She had/has a down-to-earth sweetness to her that Kylie also has, and both are quite the showgirls. Fitting that Minogue was the last SotD, so, from one pop diva to another…
